Use the basket for the ingredients and food you want to keep longer while preparing the next expedition. If the same Vines are needed for a Pouch or Rope, budget those projects before using the whole supply.

What the longer freshness window means
The v1013 developer notes describe normal spoilage as one food item at a time, usually around 20 minutes. A Food Basket keeps food fresh for at least 1 hour.
Do not treat the basket as permanent preservation. Check the food you are taking before leaving camp, and plan meals around the trip rather than stockpiling indefinitely.
Prioritize the food that can spoil
Food, raw food and some cooking ingredients can spoil. Herbs and some dry ingredients do not spoil over time in v1013, so the perishable part of your supply is the priority.
The basket also does not protect food left cooking over a fire. Remove food from the Rotisserie when it is ready, then store it. For the rest of the meal preparation routine, see cooking and food care.
